Chris Cameron recognised by HIA Award

ROCKCOTE Director, Chris Cameron has been officially honoured by the Housing Industry of Australia (HIA) with a special 'Outstanding Achievement in the Industry' Award at the 2017 HIA QLD Recognition of Women in Building and Construction Awards.

The Award was presented by Minister for Public Works and Housing Minister for Sport the Hon. Mick de Brenni MP at a gathering of industry professionals in Brisbane.

Originally starting as a two-employee operation (Chris and her husband Bob), ROCKCOTE now boasts over 80 staff and over 300 distributors nationwide, plus ROCKCOTE Resene in New Zealand.

On accepting the award, which was especially created by HIA and is the first of its kind in the event’s three-year history, Chris encouraged other women to recognise and celebrate their own career milestones.

“To be recognised by the HIA in this way is very humbling and a real honour, Chris said.

“I want to encourage all women to celebrate your own successes and the contributions you also make.”

After the presentation Chris commented on the other award recipients and her time in the industry.

“The other finalists and winners were so inspirational and I am thrilled to see more and more women making successful careers in traditionally male-dominated industries.

“During my career, I’ve been very vocal about supporting more women entering the industry but also about the role that women play as key decision makers in the building and renovation process.  Women have a lot of power in this space.”

“Additionally, we want people to consider the effect that paint and render products play on the health of tradespeople, people living or working in buildings and the environment. It’s one of the reasons we are so passionate about sustainability and the use of natural materials wherever possible at ROCKCOTE.”

Acting HIA Executive Director Michael Roberts said “HIA was delighted to be able to recognise through the Awards program the significant contribution that women are making to the residential construction industry.

“These awards are a celebration of the leadership roles women are undertaking in what is still a very male dominated industry,” said Mr Roberts.
