The ZE Duplex by Shane Denman Architects is a refined example of contemporary coastal duplex design, where natural materiality and handcrafted finishes bring warmth and depth to a clean architectural form. The project balances simplicity and texture, creating interiors that feel grounded, tactile, and enduring.
A key interior feature is the use of Rockcote Marrakesh, paired with Lime Plaster Basecote to achieve its signature seamless, mineral-rich finish. The Basecote provides the essential lime foundation layer, creating a stable and breathable substrate, while Marrakesh builds the final surface with its soft, stone-like movement and subtle polished variation. Together, they deliver a handcrafted Tadelakt-inspired aesthetic that feels natural and timeless.
The system was applied by Southern Cross Solid Plastering, ensuring the delicate lime finishes were executed with the required skill and consistency to achieve their intended effect. The project was photographed by Andy Macpherson Studio, capturing the tonal softness and organic texture that define the interiors.
The result is a cohesive architectural expression where Rockcote’s natural lime system becomes more than a finish. It shapes the atmosphere of the space, bringing a quiet richness and material authenticity to the ZE Duplex.
